Talk to a lawyer. I'm guessing he/she will suggest her current spouse apply thru the courts for adoption. If the real father doesn't contest, its a done deal. Does she even know where the father is? If he has been out of the picture for 14 yrs, Id say they shouldn't have too much problems adopting.

Does anyone know how long legally that new mexico considers a child abandoned before a spouse is able to adopt . Her husband has raised her since she was 5 yrs. old. I thought after 7 years of not being in a childs life parental rights were given. My sister has a child and is married. She would like her spouse to adopt her ex has not been around for 14yrs
